Achar (Pickle) Chicken
Achar is another word for pickle, often used in various South Asian cuisine. This flavourful pickle chicken curry uses homemade achar masala and yogurt for a tangy, aromatic dish. Can also be made with meat.
Ingredients
- 2 baby chickens, cut into small pieces
- 2 medium-sized onions, chopped
- 2 tomatoes
- Salt to taste
- 4 teaspoons homemade achar (pickle) masala
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- Chopped green coriander for garnish
Method

In a pot, add chopped onions, oil and tomatoes and cook on low heat. Add salt to taste.

Once the onions and tomatoes are tender, add the achar masala and yogurt. Mix well.

Add the chicken to the pot and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, allowing the flavours to combine.

Pour in half a cup of water and continue cooking on low heat for about 15 to 20 minutes covered or until the chicken is tender.

Garnish the curry with chopped green coriander.

Serve the achar chicken curry with rice, bread, naans, chapatis, or any other preferred accompaniments.
