🫘 Lentils (Daal)
Orange and Mung Lentils Mixed
A lovely mix of orange and mung lentils cooked together with onions, garlic, and warming spices. Quick to make and full of flavour.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup orange or red lentils (masoor dal)
- 1/2 cup of mung lentils
- 1 medium onion, chopped small
- 4 cloves of garlic, chopped small
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- Red chilli powder, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Water
- Cooking oil
Method

Rinse the orange and mung lentils thoroughly under running water and drain.

In a pot add water, the chopped onions and garlic. Leave covered on low heat for 15-20 minutes.

Add the rinsed lentils to the pot and stir to combine with the onions and garlic.

Add turmeric powder, ground coriander, and red chilli powder over the lentils. Stir well to coat the lentils in the spices.

Pour enough water into the pot to cover the lentils. Bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and let the lentils simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until they become soft and mushy.

Season with salt according to taste and give it a final stir.

Serve with rice, salad, chapatis or bread.
