Boiled Basmati Rice
Perfectly fluffy boiled basmati rice using the traditional dham steaming method. A versatile staple that pairs beautifully with lentils, beans, salad, curry, or any dish of your choice.
Ingredients
- 600g of rice
- 1,280g of water
- 2 tbsp of oil
- Salt to taste
Method

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

Soak the rice in cold water for at least 30 minutes, then drain.

Place the drained rice in a large pot. Add water and salt.

Turn the heat to high and bring the water to a boil. Do not cover the pot.

Check the rice occasionally. Once it is half soft, drain the water from the pot.

Return the rice to the pot and sprinkle with oil.

Cover the pot and reduce heat to low. Let soften (dham) for about 8 minutes.

After 8 minutes, stir the rice, turning it over to ensure even cooking. Cover and steam for another 8 minutes.

Once done, fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
