Boiled Basmati Rice

Ingredients

  • 600g of rice
  • 1,280g of water
  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. 1

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. 2

Soak the rice in cold water for at least 30 minutes, then drain.

  3. 3

Place the drained rice in a large pot. Add water and salt.

  4. 4

Turn the heat to high and bring the water to a boil. Do not cover the pot.

  5. 5

Check the rice occasionally. Once it is half soft, drain the water from the pot.

  6. 6

Return the rice to the pot and sprinkle with oil.

  7. 7

Cover the pot and reduce heat to low. Let soften (dham) for about 8 minutes.

  8. 8

After 8 minutes, stir the rice, turning it over to ensure even cooking. Cover and steam for another 8 minutes.

  9. 9

Once done, fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
