🍚 Rice
Khichri
An incredibly simple comfort food that is perfect for those days when you are not feeling your best. Made with rice and lentils, Khichri is a well-balanced meal providing protein, carbs, and fibre all in one dish. The warming spices boast numerous health benefits.
Ingredients
- 600g of rice
- 1/2 cup split yellow mung dal
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
- 2 tbsps cumin seeds
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1,280g of water
- Salt to taste
Method

Rinse the basmati rice and mung dal under cold water until the water runs clear.

Soak them together in plenty of water for about 30 minutes, then drain.

Heat the oil or ghee in a large pot over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.

Add the salt, cumin seeds, and the water.

Add the drained rice and mung dal and stir until well mixed.

Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium, cover the pot, till most of the water has dried up.

Cover and put on low heat (dham) for 10 minutes on each side.

Serve with salad.
